Graduate Certificate in Data Networking (CCNA)
The aim of this program is to provide to the Papua New Guinea (PNG) workforce a steady stream of highly qualified graduates who are not only capable of working in the expanding IT industry, but who additionally have a solid grounding in the theoretical frameworks which underlie that industry. It is assumed that an individual who has gained competence in the theoretical foundations is better educated, and better equipped for the ever-increasing pace of change in the technology world. The program will focus on the area of Information Technology known as Data Networking which supports electronic communication from Local Area Networks (LANs) to Wide Area Networks (WANs) up to the Internet upon which communication for modern life depends so much.
Duration of study
Each module will consist of 14 weeks guided online access to the DWU Course Management System and Cisco’s NetAcad portal. This will be followed by a one-week attendance on campus when there will be summary lectures, practical exercises on an installed hardware network and a supervised final online exam.

Network Models & Protocols
Study Period: Semester OneUnit code: IS601
Credit points: 15
Campus: Madang
This unit introduces the fundamental networking concepts and technologies, configuring of network operating systems. It provides the IS professional with the skills to interact with technicians, system supervisors, and system developers. The specific skills covered in each chapter are described at the start of each chapter. You can use your laptop or desktop to access your course, participate in discussions with your instructor, view your grades, read or review text, and practice using interactive media. However, some media are complex and must be viewed on a PC, as well as Packet Tracer activities, quizzes, and exams. The course is offered under the newly established DWU Cisco Academy and it follows the CCNA R&S curriculum and further develops o the hardware aspects of the ACS Core Area of Computer Organisation and Architecture and is further developed in Data Communication units and CCNA.

Routing & Switching Protocols
Study Period: Semester TwoUnit code: IS602
Credit points: 15
Campus: Madang
This unit introduces Cisco Networking Academy Program students to Routing protocols and their functions. Students learn how to configure and verify router interfaces, demonstrate comprehensive RIPv1 configuration skills, Design and implement a classless IP addressing scheme for a network, Use advanced configuration commands with routers implementing EIGRP, Apply the basic RIPv2 configuration commands and evaluate RIPv2 classless routing updates and Identify the characteristics of distance vector routing protocols. This unit corresponds to the CCNA2 curriculum and addresses aspects of the ACS Core Areas of Data Communications and Networks as well as the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) curriculum.
-
Scaling Networks
Study Period: Semester ThreeUnit code: IS603
Credit points: 15
Campus: Madang
Increasingly, Local Area Networks (LAN’s) are linked to other LAN’s via Wide Area Networks, (WAN’s) in a process known as internetworking. The largest example of this is the Internet to which most LAN’s today are connected. This unit introduces Cisco Networking Academy Program students to the Scaling of LANs to provide for enterprise level networking. This unit focuses on advanced network terminology and protocols required for large scale local-area networks (LANs) involving modifications to switching and routing protocols. The unit addresses aspects of the ACS Core Areas of Data Communications and Networks as well as the CCNA3 (Cisco Certified Network Associate) curriculum. Cisco Networking Academy is a comprehensive program that delivers information technology skills to students around the world. The curriculum emphasizes real-world practical application, while providing opportunities for you to gain the skills and hands-on experience needed to design, install, operate, and maintain networks in small- to medium-sized businesses, as well as enterprise and service provider environments. This unit corresponds to the CCNA3 curriculum and addresses aspects of the ACS Core Areas of Data Communications and Networks as well as the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) curriculum.

Wide Area Networks & Protocols
Study Period: Semester FourUnit code: IS604
Credit points: 15
Campus: Madang
Students deal with the system by which business corporations are directed and controlled. The structures specify the distribution of rights and responsibilities among participants in the corporation, such as, the board, the managers, the shareholders and other stakeholders and spells out the rules and procedures for analyzing decisions on corporate affairs.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will usually be IS, IT, Computer or Computing Science degree graduates who will be seeking to develop internationally recognised qualifications in Data Networking in order to meet the immediate need to develop a pervasive communication technology infrastructure for PNG, as well as to enhance their own prospects of gaining employment in this area.
